So, let’s dive in and explore the world of dental crowns in Wheaton, .
Dental crowns are a common solution for various dental issues. They are essentially caps that cover a tooth or dental implant. They’re made from various materials, including ceramic, porcelain, and metal. They mimic the shape, color, and size of your natural teeth so they blend seamlessly with your smile.
The primary purpose of a dental crown is to restore a damaged tooth. However, they also serve other functions, such as:
Dental crowns are prosthetic devices dentists cement onto existing teeth or implants. They fully encase the visible portion of a tooth that lies at and above the gum line.
Crowns are permanent solutions. Unlike removable devices such as dentures, which you can take out and clean daily, crowns stay in your mouth.
Dental crowns offer several benefits. First, they restore the functionality of damaged teeth. This means you can chew and speak normally again.
Second, they improve the aesthetics of your smile, as they match the color of your natural teeth, giving you a natural-looking smile.
Finally, they can restore the strength of a damaged tooth. This means you can safely chew without fear of damaging the tooth further.
You’ll find various types of dental crowns in Wheaton, . The type of crown you choose will depend on your needs and budget. Ceramic, porcelain, and metal are the most common materials used, and each has its advantages and disadvantages.
Your Wheaton Prairie Dental dentist will help you choose the best type of crown for your situation. They will consider factors like the tooth’s location, the color of the surrounding teeth, and its function.
Ceramic crowns are made from a porcelain-based material. They are popular for their natural color, which matches the rest of your teeth. Their biggest disadvantage is they are not as strong as other types of crowns.
Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns are stronger than ceramic crowns. They feature a metal structure covered with a layer of porcelain, giving them a natural appearance with added durability. The downsides are a higher cost than ceramics and the possibility of a visible metal outline near the crown’s base.
Metal crowns, made from gold or other alloys, are the strongest and are highly resistant to wear and tear. This makes them excellent options for replacing molars. However, their metallic color makes them more noticeable than ceramic or porcelain crowns.
Stainless steel crowns are often used as a temporary measure. They are prefabricated crowns used to protect a tooth or filling while the dentist makes the permanent crown.
Getting a dental crown in Wheaton, involves a series of steps. The process usually requires two visits to the dentist. Let’s review this process in more depth.
The first step in getting a dental crown is tooth preparation. This involves reshaping the tooth to make room for the crown.
Next, the dentist will take an impression of the tooth, which they will use to create your custom crown.
Finally, the dentist will place a temporary crown to protect the prepared tooth. You’ll wear this until your permanent crown is ready.
Proper care is crucial after getting a dental crown. This will help extend the lifespan of your crown.
Regular brushing and flossing are essential. You also want to avoid hard foods that can damage the crown.
Regular checkups are also important. Your dentist can check the condition of your crown and perform professional cleanings.
The cost of dental crowns in Wheaton, can vary widely depending on several factors. These include the type of crown, the dentist’s expertise, and the dental clinic itself.
It’s important to get a detailed quote before proceeding to understand the total cost and avoid surprises.
As we mentioned, the cost of a dental crown in Wheaton, can vary greatly. The material of the crown is a big factor in the price.
The complexity of the procedure also affects the cost. For example, a crown for a molar often requires significantly more work and may cost more than one on a front tooth.
While being cost-conscious is important, remember that the cheapest option may not always be the best. Consider the longevity and appearance of the crown as well.

I went here with the previous owner, and only had good experiences. Since Dr. Balaney has taken over it has maintained all the good things I appreciated before and more. I appreciate that they don't try to push extra products/procedures. The front office staff is efficient, responsive, and friendly. Parking is super easy. I had a crown replaced the other day and I'm very happy with how it went. I would recommend this office to anyone.
Having three, adjacent upper front teeth worked on simultaneously is not pleasant. Crowns placed previously and a couple replaced over the last year was the cause. One falling off in late 2021 added the third and one had a temporary placed because the original did not survive being bitten down on after coming loose. Barely completed checking in before called into room. Began with multiple x-rays then work began. Temp removed before shaping of all. One required extra work because it was too short. Packing of gums for impression most trying part. Impressions of teeth and bite followed before another, one piece, temporary placed. Used entire allotted 2 hours. Was discouraged when appt for crowns placement had to be rescheduled. Original date had taken Jul 4 holiday into consideration but more time in lab was necessary. New appt is now almost 1 month from first appt.
Had a chipped tooth emergency. Was seen in the office within two hours of calling in. Dr. Colello assessed the situation immediately and was able to make time in his schedule to put on a temporary crown during that same visit. ALL staff were extremely friendly and accommodating.
Dr. Collela and his staff do a wonderful job. I’ve had a lot of dental work done throughout my life from fillings to root canals. I was never really satisfied with my dentist until I met Dr. Collela. He replaced one of my crowns and did a wonderful job. He’s my dentist for life. The dental hygienist do a fabulous job as well. It’s always a positive environment and I highly recommend this dental office.
Dr. Colella has been treating my whole family. He is excellent. Not one of these dentists that does unnecessary work-- in fact he had me all ready for a crown (in the chair and anesthatized) and once he drilled into the tooth, found the tooth sturdy enough to just put a filling in and saved me hundreds of dollars on the spot. A true professional with his patients' best interests in mind (like every doctor SHOULD be, but not all are). And all his staff are wonderful. Highly recommended.
